The Work
Referencing the long history of political cartoons and magazine illustrations, Alex's work takes advantage of the concise and immediate format of a single-box ink drawing to capture pithy observations and fantasies emerging from the individual mind of the artist. Presented without captions, the drawings invite viewers to complete the image, provoking consideration of the cute alongside the explicit, the serious alongside the strange. With humble nods to theories of complex psychology, introversion and extroversion, and the collective unconscious, the drawings animate and transform the work of the ego into a form of imaginative psychotherapy.
